While we offer 100-day returns with free return shipping, return policies for test strips vary widely online. Most reputable companies will offer a reasonable return policy with no restocking fees. Here is a list of return policies we see from online retailers selling test strips.

We typically don't see legitimate retailers on eBay and therefore most sales are final. While prices are low, sellers tend to have a couple of boxes selling at a discount price. The origin of the boxes are often a mystery and something all buyers of test strips should be concerned about. You can read more about this here. However, you are covered by eBay's Money Back Guarantee, which may help in case of a dispute.

We see a mixture of sellers on Amazon. For retailers that utilize Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA), return policies are typically the same as Amazon's. Due to the sheer number of sellers on Amazon, if you plan to purchase, be sure to select a merchant that uses Amazon's 30-day return policy. Retailers who are posting products on Amazon from overseas typically won't allow returns.

All sales are final (click on "Pharmacy") for diabetic test strips at Walmart. However, Walmart also offers a "Marketplace" similar to Amazon. Here return policies vary by merchant. Typically, we see medical supply companies selling in this marketplace. In general, there are less sellers in Walmart's marketplace as compared with Amazon, but the sellers tend to be in the US and tend to be larger than on Amazon. This might be due to more thorough vetting by Walmart. Merchants on Walmart offer anywhere between no returns to 30 days. Many merchants charge a "restocking fee" of 15-20%. This means you'll be paying a fee if you want to return your item with some merchants in Walmart's marketplace.

As with most reputable retailers, Walgreens allows returns up to 30 days. You can either return by mail (they will pay for postage) or return to a Walgreens retail location.

CVS offers 60 day returns on items purchased in their store or online. This is a solid return policy and ensures a worry free buying experience. However, unlike Walgreens, CVS requires you to call them in order to return your item. For damaged products, they will not reimburse you for shipping the item back.

Online Retailers

Return policies vary in this category from "all sales final" to 90 days. Reputable retailers will offer at least a 30 day return policy. Most retailers in this category will not pay for return shipping. We were unable to find one that did, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Many retailers in this category also charge restocking fees, so be sure to check the return policy before buying.

Other Retailers

Many non-reputable retailers do not offer returns because they tend to focus on "short dated" (expiration dates under 6 months) test strips. In addition, if they offered returns, they would not be able to resell the items since items will be expired. It's common sense, but we recommend not buying from retailers who don't offer at least some kind of return policy.

At xeteor, we looked at many return policies before deciding on a 100-day return policy with free return shipping. We believe in giving you maximum confidence in your purchase. In addition, we don't resell our returned test strips because while we store and ship them properly in a temperature controlled environment (thanks to our FDA compliant insulated thermal mailers), we don't know how test strips are stored once out of our packaging. Therefore to ensure we don't sell you non-temperature controlled test strips, we will not resell our strips and can offer you a longer window for returns.

Alternatives to T/Sal Shampoo

T/Sal shampoo, by Neutrogena, contains salicylic acid 3% and is an effective treatment for controlling dandruff, as well as seborrheic dermatitis.

Recently, there has been news that T/Sal may be discontinued, or at the very least, will be in extremely short supply for the foreseeable future, making it difficult to find.

Fortunately, there are many effective alternatives to T/Sal if you can't find it online or at your local store.

How Does T/Sal Shampoo Work?

Salicylic acid topical products, like T/Sal, are therapeutically classified as 'keratolytics'.

Keratolytics have a variety of effects on the skin, including:

  • Hydrates the outer layer of the skin (stratum corneum)
  • Facilitates skin peeling of excess keratin
  • Relief of itching
  • Reduction of redness and inflammation
  • All of the above help with the symptoms you stated you are experiencing in your question (e.g. flaky and itchy skin on the scalp). Over time, with continued use, it generally helps reduce flaking, which you mentioned is your primary concern.

    T/Sal Alternatives

As mentioned, T/Sal has been somewhat challenging to find on the market.

If you have used salicylic acid products in the past with good effects, it makes sense to try and find a similar product.

The good news is that although brand name T/Sal may no longer be available, there is a multitude of generic versions that contain the exact same active ingredient (salicylic acid 3%). Most drugs stores have their own "store" brand. Below, are a few links to some "generic" salicylic acid shampoo products:

The above products should provide similar results to the brand name Neutrogena T/Sal as they all contain 3% salicylic acid.

Now, shampoos that contain salicylic acid aren't your only option. Several other therapeutic shampoos you may find helpful include:

    • Coal Tar shampoo
    • Ketoconazole Shampoo
    • Traditional anti-dandruff shampoos (e.g. Head & Shoulders, Selsun Blue)

    Coal Tar Shampoo

Coal tar shampoos, which include Neutrogena T/Gel and Zetar, work in a similar way as salicylic acid shampoos in that they are keratolytic.

In addition to softening scaly skin, coal tar shampoos also inhibit the excessive production of epidermal cells, reducing their size and overall numbers.

While perhaps not as hydrating as salicylic acid products, coal tar generally works exceptionally well in preventing excess flaking of the skin (it does more than just reduce itching, something you stated you were concerned about).

For some, coal tar is a more effective option for controlling dandruff. Unfortunately, it is associated with an unpleasant odor and can stain clothing and less commonly, skin. Nevertheless, if you are unable to find or are not getting good effects from salicylic acid products, coal tar shampoos may be a good alternative.

    Ketoconazole Shampoo

Ketoconazole is a topical anti-fungal. While many people associate dandruff and flaking skin simply to dry skin, yeast, and fungus are actually very commonly the culprits. Specifically, overgrowth of a common yeast, Pityrosporum ovale, causes itching of the scalp and flaking.

Ketoconazole shampoos are available in a variety of generic products as well as the brand-name product Nizoral.

Antifungal shampoos such as Nizoral control the overgrowth Pityrosporum ovale, leading to less dandruff and relief of itch. These shampoos have the advantage of not needing to be applied often. Ketoconazole binds to hair in-between uses and generally only needs to be used 2 to 3 times a week.

    Traditional Anti-Dandruff Shampoos

    Traditional anti-dandruff shampoos include:

    • Head & Shoulders (Pyrithione zinc)
    • Selsun Blue (Selenium sulfide)

These are classified as cytostatic agents and work in a similar way to the other products mentioned in this article, working by regulating cell growth and preventing excess flaking of the skin. While they can be mildly irritating to the skin, they are generally considered gentle options and are can be used daily.

    Final Words

If the salicylic acid shampoo has worked well for you before, be sure to look at local pharmacies for a generic product. If those aren't available, one of the other options I discussed may be effective for your situation.

The 10 Best Shampoos for Eczema, According to Dermatologists

    Final Verdict

Eczema is no fun to deal with anyone on your body, but perhaps even more so on your scalp, which is when a good eczema shampoo can make all the difference. The Mustela Stelatopia Foam Shampoo is approved by experts and the National Eczema Association, a formula that’s so gentle that its intended use was for babies. At the drugstore, pick up the Neutrogena T/Sal Therapeutic Shampoo with Build-Up Control, a good choice if you have scalp eczema, psoriasis, or dandruff. And if flakes are your main complaint, try the DHS ZInc Shampoo, an affordable go-to.

What to Look For In an Eczema Shampoo

    A Medicated Formula

More specifically, one that contains zinc pyrithione, salicylic acid, or selenium sulfide, active ingredients that can help combat the symptoms of eczema, such as itching and flaking.

    A Super-Gentle Formula

On the flip side, if your eczema is milder or you perhaps don’t want a medicated option, stick with mild, hypoallergenic formulas that won’t irritate your already stressed-out scalp. (Fragrance-free is always one important criterion.)
