23-year-old killed in single-car crash in Boone County on Friday morning, police say

A 23-year-old man was killed early Friday morning in Boone County when police say his car went off the road "for an unknown reason" and crashed into a tree, the Boone County Sheriff's Office said.

Police about 2:45 a.m. received a call from a witness saying they found a single-car crash in the area of County Road 300 South and County Road 1200 West — a crossroads on the west side of Boone County, according to a sheriff's office spokesperson.

Police arriving to the scene found a silver Nissan passenger car crashed into a tree. The driver, Christopher Harris, of Crawfordsville, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials said preliminary information indicates Harris was traveling west on County Road 300 South "when for an unknown reason the vehicle exited the roadway striking a tree."

Boone County:2 dead, 4 injured in crash that started as police chase Friday, police say

The fatal crash came just over an hour before another crash in Boone County that left two people, including a 14-year-old girl, dead and four others injured following a police chase.

In that case, police said a KIA Soul carrying six people drove off the road on State Road 32 near County Road 650 East shortly after 4 a.m. and crashed into a tree.

Officials said police had been chasing the car in Lawrence but had ended that pursuit in Marion County — before the crash.

No additional information about the crash that killed the 23-year-old has been released, and both incidents are under investigation.
