The GTX 1080 might be the high-end flagship of the latest Pascal set of graphics cards, but their prices keep them out of the reach of most mid-range PC gamers. On the other hand, the GTX 1070 is closer to being reasonably affordable at a price tag of $ 399. The good news is, with the release of the GTX 1070 Ti, the GTX 1070 's price is getting more discount.

NVIDIA ’s xx70 cards have always been defined by mid-range prices with performance that knocks on the door of high-end graphics cards – especially when overclocked. After taking the time to fully test the Pascal graphics card inside the GTX 1070, we can say without a doubt that it continues the trend. Spec for spec, this GTX 1070 leapfrogs its direct predecessor, the GTX 970, by boasting 2 % more fps.

The GTX 1070 has 8 GB RAM compared to the GTX 970 's 4 GB video memory. In our synthetic benchmarks, the GTX 1070 blows past the GTX 970 and, amazingly, even the GTX 980 as well.

Fortunately, gaming performance was quite impressive. The GTX 1070 consistently delivers great frame rate increases over the GTX 970 and it really justifies an upgrade. For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Anthem, Need For Speed: Heat, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Just Cause 4 at 64 fps to 75 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 71 fps.

For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play GreedFall, Hitman 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Death Stranding, F1 2019 at 61 fps to 67 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 64 fps. For 2160p 4K, we were able to play Valorant at 134 fps to 134 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 134 fps.

The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 SLI for desktops is a combination of two GTX 1070 graphics cards in SLI mode. Each card renders one frame at a time (AFR mode) but depends for most games on a good profile in the driver. Therefore, the performance can range from no gains over a single GTX 1070 to up to 90% faster performance. In most games with SLI support, the GTX 1070 SLI is therefore faster than a single GTX 1080. However, sometimes the combination also suffers from micro-stuttering.

The technical details of the card are identical to a single GTX 1070 (see for more information) and the power consumption is doubled (2x 150 = 300 Watt).

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 sits behind the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti as the second fastest desktop GPU in NVIDIA's current Turing line-up. The RTX 2080 has 2,944 shader units, 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM and a 256-bit interface that runs at 14 GHz and delivers up to 448 GB/s.

Features

NVIDIA manufacturers the TU104 chip on a 12 nm FinFET process and includes features like Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) and Real-Time Ray Tracing (RTRT), which should combine to create more realistic lighting effects than older GPUs based on the company's Pascal architecture (if the games supports it). The RTX 2080 is also DisplayPort 1.4 ready, while there is also support for HDMI 2.0b, HDR, Simultaneous Multi-Projection (SMP) and H.265 video en/decoding (PlayReady 3.0).

Performance

The RTX 2080 should perform on par with a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, but it will outclass the latter in games that support DLSS and RTRT. The RTX 2080 is at the pinnacle of consumer desktop GPUs and can play most triple-A games released in 2018 at high graphics in 4K.

Power Requirements

NVIDIA estimates that the RTX 2080 should consume a maximum of 215 W, which is 35 W higher than the company rates its GeForce GTX 1080.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti (Desktop)

The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Ti is the second fastest Pascal based graphics card in November 2017. It is a high-end desktop graphics card based on a cut down GP104 chip as the GTX 1080 and manufactured in 16 nm FinFET at TSMC. Compared to the GTX 1080, it uses the more available GDDR5 graphics memory, and compared to the GTX 1070 it offers more shaders (2432 versus 1920). More details on the Pascal architecture including all features and comparisons to Maxwell, can be found here.

The performance of the GTX 1070 Ti was in our tests right between the GTX 1070 and GTX 1080. However, the powerefficiency was worse than the GTX 1070 and near the GTX 1080. Nvidia also specifies the 1070 Ti and 1080 at 180W.

General info

The thermal design power (TDP) is the maximum amount of power the cooling system needs to dissipate. A lower TDP typically means that it consumes less power.
