Orangetheory Fitness Opening Sioux Falls Location
One of the fastest-growing fitness chains in the world is coming to Sioux Falls.
Orangetheory Fitness plans to open in a retail center near the intersection of 85th Street and Minnesota Avenue.
It won’t open until December, but the company is going to host a kickoff on September 22 at The Empire Mall.
Regional Sales Manager Charles Smith says you’ll be able to get the best membership deals at that kickoff.
This will the first location in South Dakota for Orangetheory Fitness, which specializes in one hour full-body workouts with personalized training and heart monitoring.
“They have an exciting boutique fitness concept that will go over very well in the Sioux Falls market,” Broker Marcus Mahlen with NAI Sioux Falls said.
Orangetheory will be located in the same retail center as several other planned businesses, including Urban Chislic and Safe Splash Swim School. Ever since Walmart opened nearby three years ago, construction has been hot in the area.
“It’s one of the hottest retail corners in Sioux Falls. It’s certainly true from my perspective as a broker. It’s nice to be a part of the final touches of that development,” Mahlen said.

The fast-growing national fitness chain Orangetheory Fitness plans to expand to Sioux Falls.
Archit Shah has the franchise rights to the market. He started with a location in Fargo, where his parents live, and is opening his next location early next year in Grand Forks, N.D. He plans to open in Sioux Falls before the end of 2018.
“It’s exceeded our expectations,” he said of the Fargo location. “I think people are really enjoying it based on the customer feedback and the level of referrals we see. We’re really happy with the performance.”
Orangetheory has more than 650 locations worldwide. Its differentiators are personalized training and heart monitoring, Shah said.
“You get the benefit of having a trainer, and everyone wears a heart rate monitor,” he said. “We work to your heart rate to make sure you have the best workout for you.”
Members can work out at any location nationwide, and all locations rotate through the same one-hour full-body workout on the same days.
“We’ll never claim to be the cheapest product, but we make sure to get results,” he said. “If you come 12 times in a month and don’t see results, you’ll get your money back.”
An app also tracks members’ heart rates outside the fitness studio, “so you can work out outside the studio and manage that process,” Shah said.
He hasn’t started scouting locations in Sioux Falls yet but expect he eventually will have a couple of studios in town.
“We try not to look more than six or eight months before we really need the space, but I know Sioux Falls is expanding and a difficult commercial real estate market, so we may be coming sooner,” he said, adding he plans to sponsor races and participate in other fitness-related events.
“We’re looking forward to being partners in the community.”

New fitness concept Orangetheory targets busy south Sioux Falls intersection
The billboards are all over town, reading "Orange is coming..."
What's orange? It's Orangetheory, a new fitness concept to Sioux Falls, planning an opening at the intersection of 85th and Minnesota in December.
Archit Shah, who is the multi-franchise owner and Orangetheory area representative for both North and South Dakota, called Sioux Falls a "natural market" for the company.
"Orangetheory is a national franchise and therefore we want to make it accessible to the entire nation," he said.
Hot corner: Why 85th and Minnesota is blowing up
This will be the first Orangetheory location in the state.
Marcus Mahlen, broker associate at NAI Sioux Falls, helped Orangetheory find its Sioux Falls home. He said early in the process they identified that Orangetheory's preferred demographic base was prevalent in south Sioux Falls.
"I’m excited they had the opportunity to secure one of the last sites near the popular 85th and Minnesota intersection to draw from the area rooftops," Mahlen said.
Shah described Orangetheory's approach to fitness as a "unique trifecta of science, coaching and technology" designed to boost participants' heart rates and help them burn calories.
Orangetheory is a one-hour, full-body workout focused on training endurance, strength and power which the company claims burns more calories post workout than traditional exercise.
"Backed by the science of excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC), Orangetheory workouts incorporate endurance, strength, and power to generate the 'Orange Effect' – whereby participants keep burning calories for up to 36 hours after a 60-minute workout," he said in an email.
Shah also emphasized an Orangetheory membership gives members access to all Orangetheory locations nationwide, not just the Sioux Falls location.
Liberty Square, the new home for Orangetheory franchise, already features the recently opened Urban Chislic restuarant. Also announced for the strip center: Safe Splash Swim School, which will open by the end of the year.
